Residence Permit in France for Financially Independent Persons
A residence permit in France for financially independent persons is a long-term solution for those who wish to live legally in France while retaining lifestyle flexibility and freedom of movement across the Schengen area.
Application procedure
- Obtaining a long-stay type D visa (equivalent to a residence permit)
- Entry into France and activation of status
- Renewal of the residence permit and issuance of a resident card (four months before the visa expires, an application is submitted to renew it and issue a plastic resident card).
This type of residence permit does not require mandatory residence in France for 183 days per year. This means the applicant is not obliged to stay in the country permanently unless they intend to acquire citizenship. If naturalisation is not the goal, France may be visited even once a year to obtain the renewed card.
A French residence permit for financially independent persons is a convenient instrument for living in Europe with a high degree of freedom, minimal residency requirements and flexible international mobility.
